KNI System Inc has installed Unix based CAD/CAM system since 1989 beginning with Samsung Aerospace Co,.ltd in south korea. for the first time in korea we adopted Unix based CAD system. our services are Unix system installation,data backup, trouble shooting including os,cad package. you can see one of our achievement.

Samsung Camera Division

Samsung Camera had been using 2-Dimen tional CAD system by late 90s. but we recommended 3D CAD system for improving design productivity remarkably in 1995 Before we made the decision, we did bench mark test serveral times in terms of cost-performance. because of specific camera design,we decided to adopt ProE with parametric technology after a number of prototype testing.

Samsung Factory Automation Division

Samsung group, one of top 3 conglomerate has been involved in factory automation business since 1985. at that time Samsung FA like most of company all over the world
was using draft instead of cad system.  so KNI System Inc made top manager realize that cad system is essential for better competiveness  especially in design oriented company like most of factory automation business.

Eventually, top manager made a decision to purchase AutoCAD based on Unix work station. we set up more than 100 workstations installing os ( domain_os ), AutoCAD
,nic card and networking ( token ring style )
After initial setup, we did much like directory,file server, mount,performance tuning, which made us acquire much of Unix,AutoCAD,techanical know-how. that's why we are the best company when it comes to CAD/CAM system ,cad data management

 PDM ( Product Data Management ) Implementation


Before PDM era, we had developed EDB ( Engineering Data Base) system as main engineering management system. mostly EDB is based on rdbms,Unix Motif user interface improving design productivity and reducing tedious task such as data search
data edit for quick re-design. but the problem is that EDB system need much more maintenance,hard coding even after completed. so we have been adopted PDM package type which makes it easier to implement,maintenance and also doesn't have to have many programmers. therefore,that made us consider several PDM  packages for quite long time.

Our first achievement of PDM project was Samsung camera project, you can refer it here. before we started it, we planed 3 phase-plan. it was more difficult than we expected.
First step was to set up the engineering process which is called EPI ( Engineering Process Innovation ). and next was to making data vault system which enables users
to save valuable data such as drawing,engineering specifications,part descriptions and so on. the last phase was workflow process which is to make engineering processes digitalized leading to streamlining cross functional organization.
After workflow implementation, decision making process became more faster because of the excellent functionality of workflow like automatic notification, work history.


Other achievement was "Samsung  Chip Mounter" which was very similar to Samsung Camera project. this is in process of workflow implementation.

 Automatic test and measurement system


Some of camera components depends on visual inspection causing eye fatigue and eventually led to quality problems. so we planned to do automation systemically
As a first step for automation, we had contracted partnership with SNU ( Seoul National University. and then we designed visual inspection automation system replacing human labor and error very successfully. after installed the system on Samsung Camera production line, we had evaluation period for the time being. the result was much better than they expected. so we decided to participate  in Automation Fair'89 in Seoul and got excellent score.

 Design of Network backbone and LAN


These days Network bandwidth and traffic  became very critical due to large amount of information comes from internet. therefore, effictive network design is very important. In late 80s, we planed and designed Network backbone of Samsung Aerospace plant #1 located in Changwon city, Kyungnam province of South korea.
After successful installation, we extened LAN,WAN covering almost all supply chain Because we acknowledge LAN and LAN Swith, Switching HUB, and router ,NMS ( Network Management System )

 EBOM (Engineering Bill of Material) System


There are many kinds of product data types in engineering process.
BOM  is the most important data in production line,

Before , we do it, bom is very complicated due to too many supply chain.
Family module BOM, so-called MBOM is very critical, because BOM data is directly linked to production planning with MRP running. we need to simplify bom structure.
removing redundancy items. we advisied them to try to maintain bom , guaranting the transparency.   
 

EBOM ( Engineering BOM ) is more focus on product structure itself than MBOM ( manufacturing bom )
in other words, ebom is designer-oriented
bom whereas mbom is manufacter-oriented bom. but most of technical know-how exist in E-BOM enabling designers to reuse them when they design new model.
